Short answers to the questions people ask most. Still stuck? Send us a message.
Reading
Do I need an account to read?
No. Every profile, post, category and topic page is open to everyone, free, with nothing to sign up for.
How do I follow a writer?
Open their profile and use the Follow (RSS) button. It links to the writer’s feed at /their-handle/feed.xml; paste that address into any feed reader and new posts arrive there.
Is there one feed for the whole site?
Yes: /feed.xml carries new posts from every writer on RyeType.
What are topics?
Topics are the tags writers add to their posts. Each tag has a page at /disciplines/name/ that collects every post with that tag, from every profile.
Replies
How do I reply to a post?
Scroll to the end of the post, fill in your name and your reply, and send it. No account and no email address are needed.
Why doesn’t my reply show up straight away?
Every reply from a reader is reviewed by a moderator before it is published. Replies that are never approved are deleted automatically after 30 days.
Can I edit or remove a reply I wrote?
There is no account to edit from, so ask us. Use the contact page, choose Privacy request, and include the post address and the name you used.
Writing here
How do I get a profile?
Writer accounts are by invitation only and there is no public sign-up form. Tell us about your design work and what you would write through the contact page, topic Getting an invite. We read every request; an invitation is not guaranteed.
What can I write about?
Design and the thinking around it: case studies, process write-ups, type and lettering, critiques, tools and techniques. Posts can be in Vietnamese, English or any other language.
Who owns what I publish?
You do. You give RyeType permission to host, display and distribute your posts, including through RSS feeds. You can ask for any post, or your whole profile, to be removed.
Can I link to my own site and portfolio?
Yes. Your profile can carry a link to your website, and links inside posts are ordinary links to wherever you choose to send readers.
Problems
I found something that breaks the rules. What now?
Use the contact page with the topic Report a post or reply and paste the address of the page. The community guidelines explain what is and isn’t allowed.
Someone posted my work without permission.
Choose Copyright concern on the contact page, and include a link to your original and a link to the copy.
Is there an email address or phone number?
No. The contact page is the only way to reach the RyeType team. Messages go to the site’s own inbox and we reply by email when a reply is needed.
